Italy National Football Team in Eurocup 2024 – Group, Schedule and Venues

Italy in Eurocup 2024 – Schedule and Venues

Italy are the defending European champions and they’ll be looking to making a huge impact at Euro 2024 as they look to retain their crown.

The Italian side missed out on qualification for the last World Cup in Qatar, so they’ll be eager to prove a point when Euro 2024 gets underway in Germany.

Group Stage Calendar – Marking the Dates

Italy will face several stern tests in Group B as they partake in the so called ‘Group of Death’ alongside Spain, Croatia, and Albania.

From the outset, Italy will need to prove that they can compete at the highest level in this tournament and a solid start could be the platform to push on as they play Albania, Spain, and Croatia in that order.

Italy’s Euro 2024 fixtures

  • June 15 – Italy vs. Albania
  • June 20 – Italy vs. Spain
  • June 24 – Italy vs. Croatia

Match Venues

Italy will get their competition underway with a trip to Borussia Dortmund’s Westfalenstadion where they will take on Albania.

Their second game will be located at Arena AufSchalke, the home of Schalke, where they will face Spain in what could be one of the games of the tournament.

Italy end their group campaign against Croatia at the Red Bull Stadium in Leipzig.

Key Rivals in the Group – Analysing the Competition

In Italy, Croatia, and Spain, Group B has three sides who genuinely believe that they can long in this tournament and potentially even win.

All sides have good track records in recent competitions and if all defeat Albania like they’re expected to do, the games pitting these three sides against each other will be vital for qualification to the next phase.

Spain’s passing style has long been their identity and it could mean that Italy choose a more direct approach against them but in Croatia, they’ll face an experienced squad used to living up to their tag as underdogs.

Star Players – Pillars of Italy’s Strength

Italy will head into Euro 2024 with a fairly new squad follwing the retirment of a number of their ageing winners from Euro 2020.

Like in Euro 2020, Gianluigi Donnarumma will be in goal for Italy and the PSG stopper will play a vital role for his country as captain and goalkeeper.

In defence, it’s likely that Francesco Acerbi will be the player tasked with the responsibility of ensuring Italy remain tight like they have in previous competitions where the success has been built on defence.

In attack, Federico Chiesa has been in outstanding form for Juventus in Serie A, and he’ll be the player Italy look to in front of goal. Supported by the likes of Matteo Politano, Italy’s threat up top could be dangerous if the ball can be supplied there by Inter Milan’s Nicolo Barella

Tactical Strategies – Italy’s Game Plan

Recently taken over by former Napoli boss, Luciano Spalletti, Italy will be confident that the man who won the 2022/23 Serie A title can deliver success on the international stage.

A veteran manager who’s coached many of Italy’s top sides, Spalletti won’t have any issues adapting to the demands of tournament football after dealing with numerous high pressure situations.

Despite operating a 4-3-3 formation at Napoli, Spalletti can change tactics frequently depending on the opposition and he’s a huge motivator.

Believing in positive dressing rooms, Spalletti often b=rings a feelgood factor to teams and his early integration with the Italy squad has been positive thus far.

Road to the Knockout Stage – Scenarios and Possibilities

Emerging from this group will give Italy huge confidence knowing who they’ve overcome and that can take them far in the tournament.

Spain and Croatia will have big ambitions at Euro 2024 and if Italy can dent those hopes, then they’ll believe they can go all the way.

If successful in their group, Italy will move into the last 16 and that could mean an interesting showdown against Germany
