Palmeiras Next Matches: Road to Winning the “Brasileiro”

Palmeiras are the current envy of Brazilian football as they sit top of their domestic league and have the prestigious Brasileiro in their sights as they look to become champions of Brazil for a twelfth time.

The São Paulo side are in pole position to secure the crown, but the chasing pack are close behind with Flamengo level on 63 points but a worse goal difference, and Botafogo on 62.

Palmeiras’ destiny is very much in their own hands, and they’ll need to be at their absolute best in their remaining fixtures if they’re to secure supremacy in their homeland and send their fanatic supporters into ecstasy.

Current Form and Standing – Palmeiras’ Path to Victory

Although top of the league, Palmeiras were given an almighty scare at the start of November when they were hammered 3-0 by closest rivals, Flamengo, and the result made the title race wide open again.

Palmeiras have only won one of their last three games but before that, they collected an impressive 15 points from the 15 that were available from the five games they played.

They might want to keep an eye on their discipline in their upcoming fixtures as two of their last three games have seen them go to down to ten men and they dropped points in both fixtures including the loss to Flamengo when Gustavo Gomez was dismissed.

Palmeiras next three fixtures will see them play two at home and their fans will be looking to create a hostile atmosphere at Allianz Parque as they welcome America MG and Fluminense before travelling to Cruzeiro on the final day of the season.

Win all their remaining fixtures and they should be crowned champions. Flamengo and Botafogo will be praying for a slip up but even then, those two sides will need to be perfect.

Key Opponents Ahead – Who Stands in Palmeiras’ Way?

Palmerias will be well fancied for their upcoming fixtures especially with two of their opponents sitting in the bottom four with America MG already resigned to finishing in bottom spot.

Cruzeiro are fighting for survival and will give it a good go, but their fate could already be sealed on the final day meaning that their players might not have much to play for.

Fluminense, on their day, are a tough test for anyone throughout South American football and can certainly spring an upset against the title chasing Palmeiras. If the Sao Paulo side can get past Fluminense then it’s very likely their hardest assignment will be out the way.

Players to Watch – Palmeiras’ Heroes on the Pitch

Endrick is seen as one of the brightest young talents in Brazilian football and he’s likely to contribute to the national side for years to come.

The 17-year-old forward is set to join Real Madrid next summer, but he can end his spell at Palmeiras a hero by firing his side to the title and adding to the nine goals he’s already scored this season.

Another key player who’ll want to contribute to Palmeiras’ success is Raphael Veiga. The Brazilian midfielder with four international caps to his name has been a major presence for his side this season and he will want to finish the season strong.

Although he was recklessly sent off against Flamengo in November, Gustavo Gomez is still a vital part of this Palmeiras side in his role as captain. The Paraguayan star, once of AC Milan, has lifted many trophies for his club and he’ll be eager to add even more.
