Portugal National Football Team in Eurocup 2024 – Group, Schedule and Venues

Portugal in Eurocup 2024 – Schedule and Venues

Euro 2024 gets underway this summer in Germany, and Portugal will identify the competition as an opportunity to perform well and hopefully replicate their success from eight years ago when they were crowned champions at Euro 2016.

Here, we’ll look at Portugal’s schedule at Euro 2024 and where they must travel and who they must face if they want to become champions of Europe.

Group Stage Calendar – Marking the Dates

Portugal find themselves in group F with Turkey, Czech Republic and the country that wins Play Off C. That will be Greece, Kazakhstan, Georgia, or Luxembourg.

They get their campaign underway on June 18 when they face the Czech Republic before a fixture against Turkey on June 22. On June 26, Portugal will face the Play Off winner.

Portugal’s Euro 2024 fixtures

  • June 18 – Portugal vs. Czech Republic
  • June 22 – Portugal vs. Turkey
  • June 22 – Portugal vs. Play Off C Winner

Match Venues

Portugal will get their campaign underway against the Czech Republic and the game will take place at the Red Bull Stadium, the home of Red Bull Leipzig.

After that, it’s onto the Westfalenstadion, the iconic home of Borussia Dortmund that will host Portugal’s game with Turkey.

Portugal end their group run with a trip to Arena AufSchalke, Schalke’s stadium, where they will take on the Play Off C winner.

Key Rivals in the Group – Analysing the Competition

The three confirmed teams in Group F will all be confident that they can qualify for the latter stages of the tournament, but it’s Portugal who look to be the strongest bet to get through the group.

Turkey enter the competition in decent form and they’ll back themselves strongly after emerging from a qualifying group that included Wales and Croatia. Turkey applied themselves well at all times on the road to Germany and they’ll be hoping to take that momentum into the tournament.

It’s still unknown who will join Portugal in Group F from the Play Offs, but they’ll be aware of the threat Czech Republic pose. Ivan Hasek doesnt have the full backing of his country’s supporters but on their day, the Czechs will believe they can qualify from the group.

Star Players – Pillars of Portugal’s Strength

Despite his senior age, Cristiano Ronaldo will still be the man that Portugal will look at if they want to be successful at Euro 2024. Long the talisman for Portugal, the globally renowned forward has established himself in many international competitions and he’ll be hungry to do it again.

Backing up Ronaldo will be Bernardo Silva and Diogo Jota and after impressing often for Manchester City and Liverpool respectively, both attacking players should be able to compliment Ronaldo in front of goal.

In midfield, hopes could be placed on the young shoulders of Joao Neves who’s impressed for Benfica this season despite only being 19. Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes will be central to Portugal’s plans and there could also be a big part to play for Fulham’s Joao Palhinha.

In defence, Portugal will look at Ruben Dias and Gonçalo Inácio to keep goals out and with the experienced Rui Patricio behind them in goal, they’ll be confident they can build their campaign on solid foundations.

Tactical Strategies – Portugal’s Game Plan

Headed by Roberto Martinez, Portugal will undoubtedly try to apply a possession-based approach when looking to deliver success at Euro 2024.

Throughout his managerial career at places like Everton and Belgium, Martinez has always wanted his sides to keep the ball and find openings in the opposition.

This approach has had mixed success but with Portugal armed with quality players, Martinez will be confident that his possession inspired strategy could help him get Portugal over the line at Euro 2024.

Road to the Knockout Stage – Scenarios and Possibilities

Portugal’s path to the knockout stages will likely depend on their results against Turkey and Czech Republic. Roberto Martinez’s men will be expected to beat the Play Off winners, but so will the other two teams already confirmed for the group.

If Portugal can register one win against either Turkey or Czech Republic, then they’ll be confident they can make it to the next phase of the tournament.

Waiting for the hem in the next round if they finish second in the group could be France or the Netherlands.
