When and Where Can I Watch the Turkish Super Cup: Galatasaray vs Fenerbahçe

The Turkish Super Cup Final looks set to bring a fiery end to the new year, with Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe going head to head in what could be a clash for the ages.

The action takes place from the AL-AWWAL PARK Stadium at 17:45 (UK time) on Friday 29th December.

Below, we will examine the importance of the final, its place in Turkish football history, and what we can expect from what could be a match-up for the ages!

Galatasaray vs Fenerbahçe – A Turkish Super Cup Showdown

Of all the ties the Turkish Super Lig final could have thrown up, this one was the dooziest!

Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe have a long-standing history of competition, both on and off the field.

This match-up is known as the  Intercontinental Derby, called as such because both clubs are two of the major Turkish teams from the Asian and the European parts of Istanbul respectively.. Since the two clubs first met in 1909,, they have been battling it out for titles, bragging rights, and the love and support of their passionate fan bases.

It is widely considered to be one of the biggest matches in world football.  The ill-feeling between the two clubs is said to stem from riots in the aftermath of a friendly match between the two teams in 1934, which saw the referee abandon the game after numerous fights on the field and in the stands between rival supporters.

That mutual hatred has endured ever since, and the atmospheres have always bubbled, sometimes spilling over into more serious scenes.

One of the most iconic moments of this rivalry involves ex-Scottish hard man footballer and Galatasaray manager Graeme Souness taking a large flag from his team’s supporters and planting it into the centre of the pitch, enraging Fenerbahçe fans and delighting Galatasary supporters alike.
